Ferry at the Factory

Ambition Aspire Achieve has been awarded a grant by the National Lottery Fund to share the vibrant history of community celebration in Newham through photography from the Newham Recorder archive.

Young people will become curators and in half term fun activities, they will find out about the Ferry Festival and gain skills from professional artists in how to tell stories through creating an exhibition together. The exhibition will be shared publicly during Newham Heritage Month this June. There will be a celebratinon event on the evening of the 20th, with the exhibition on display at The Factory from the 21st until the 23rd.

Community Cataloguing

The project also delves into the personal archive of Colin Grainger from his time working as a Newham newspaper editor for over twenty years. Volunteers who will gain skills in cataloguing and caring for paper and digital archives, will be trained and supported to bring this fascinating archive to public attention. Photos, clippings and journalist notes from Newham’s rich past – never before catalogued and shared with the local community – will be sorted through and presented to Newham’s Heritage Service.

Thanks to National Lottery players for making this project possible.

This event will be held at The Factory – a venue with full wheelchair access. No sign up is necessary.
