Caramel Rock Turns 15

Caramel Rock is turning 15 in 2023. This event will be a celebration of styles including African Diaspora, Kente fabrics, tribal print, and Afro Caribbean heritage over a series of activities highlighting Caramel Rock workshops from the late 2000s to present day.

The event will include live music and a fashion show to showcase bringing fashion and culture to the Newham community, bringing back alumni from the early 2000s celebrating the impact Caramel Rock has had on their lives and the role Caramel Rock has had in the borough. Activities focusing on exploring craftsmanship and the fashion industry will occur throughout the day, including industry talks and an evening event celebrating Black Afro, Caribbean diaspora and the 15 years of Caramel Rock in Newham and the impact the organisation has had on the community.

Activity Times:

12pm-1pm: History and heritage of Caramel Rock (Late 2000s), Workshop on dress codes, costumes of the African Diaspora and the impact of our fashion fabrics workshops.

1pm-2pm: Lunch and Discussion Q&A

2pm-3pm: Workshop focused on Tribal print, exploring Afro Caribbean heritage from Caramel Rock workshops conducted in the late 2000s

3pm-4pm: Caramel Rock fashion participatory activities during the event continue with focus on activities conducted between 2010-2015.

4pm-5pm: Caramel Rock fashion Workshops continue with focus on our activities from 2015-2020 A wider range of people will be involved in heritage celebrating 15 years of Caramel Rock with image exhibition photo archives of our early days of flyers, logo images, workshop and activities.

5pm-6pm: Caramel Rock fashion finishes our activities with a catwalk show. The catwalk show will allow the audience to experience creative fashion, arts and culture with live music of collections that was made from 2008-2023 bringing back alumni students and staff to tell their story.
