Silverworks Island hosts Newham’s Festival of Youth
Each summer, Newham Music invites hundreds of young people to participate in immersive musical activities and concerts through singing, playing, and performing at their Festival of Youth.
This year's flagship event, Sing Loud, Sing Newham, took place at Broadwick Live's outdoor festival site, Silverworks Island on 9 July, in partnership with Broadwick Live, 9.8 and Tate & Lyle. Eighteen Newham schools came together for a huge celebration of young musical talent in the borough.
The show included massed singalongs to Newham Youth Orchestra and live band, with standout performances from the Musical Theatre Singing Club and Junior Reps Choir. Audiences also enjoyed a fantastic show from St Francis, Gallions and Scott Wilkie primary schools - the winners and runners up of this year's Newham Primary Choir competition. Another highlight came from guest performer, Leanne Jones from Hairspray the Musical!, who delighted the crowd with a song from the Broadway and West End hit show.
In preparation for the event, Newham Music’s vocal team led school workshops and developed dedicated resources, all designed to support and elevate vocal learning across participating schools.
