Meet the Dockers: Tammy Gregory

Tammy Gregory is the founder of Pink Pilates, a blush-toned studio built on the philosophy of wellness, not perfection. Based in Royal Wharf, it has quickly become a welcoming haven for everyone including complete beginners, pros, new mums and wheelchair users.

In this Meet the Dockers interview, Tammy shares her journey into fitness, the inspiration behind opening her independent studio, and how she’s building a movement community rooted in strength and connection.

How did you get into the fitness industry?

I got into fitness the way a lot of people do, by realising my body needed more kindness and less punishment. What started as curiosity quickly turned into obsession, the healthy kind! Pilates gave me strength without burnout, structure without pressure, and a way to listen to my body. I’ve never looked back!

What inspired you to open your own studio?

I wanted a space that didn’t feel intimidating, competitive or like you had to already be fit to belong. An independent studio meant freedom, to slow things down, personalise everything, and create a place where people feel genuinely welcome, not judged or rushed.

Our clients don’t come here to be flawless, they come to feel better in their bodies, and that mindset changes everything.

Your philosophy is ‘wellness, not perfection’. Why is that message so important to you?

Because perfection is exhausting and honestly, boring. Wellness is about consistency, self-respect, and progress that fits into real life. Our clients don’t come here to be flawless, they come to feel better in their bodies, and that mindset changes everything.

That’s also the most rewarding part of running an independent studio. Seeing familiar faces walk through the door and knowing you’ve created something that genuinely matters. When someone tells you they feel stronger, happier, or more confident, that’s the real win. No spreadsheet compares to that. Being hands-on means, I hear the feedback directly and I get to see the change happen in real time.

For those new to it, what is Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates is a form of Pilates performed on a specialist machine called a reformer, which uses springs, straps and a moving carriage to create controlled resistance. The machine supports your body while also challenging it, allowing for a full-body workout that’s both low impact and highly effective.

It may look calm and controlled, but it works everything. It builds strength, flexibility, posture, mobility, and deep core control without putting pressure on your joints. It’s sneaky in the best way, you walk out taller, stronger, and wondering how something so graceful made you sweat!

Building strength and confidence: a client at Pink Pilates on a reformer machine

Reformer machines can seem intimidating to beginners. How do you help first timers feel comfortable and confident?

We remove the mystery straight away. Everything is explained, demonstrated, adjusted, and encouraged, no assumptions, no pressure! You’re guided the whole time and reminded that everyone was new once. The reformer stops being scary about five minutes in, usually right after the first laugh. I make mistakes, I fall, I show my human side.

Can you tell us about the Access Reformer classes for wheelchair users?

Access Reformer classes are about inclusion without compromise. The machines and bars are adapted and easily adjusted, and the studio layout is designed to accommodate everyone. The teaching is highly personalised, focusing on what each body can do. The result is empowering, respectful, and genuinely joyful because movement should be for everyone.

You grew a human. That counts as strength training.

Tell us about the Mommy and Munchkins sessions for new mums.

Mommy & Munchkins sessions are genuinely a joy to teach. We take a calm, hands-on approach because new motherhood is intense enough without adding pressure.

If a baby needs a cuddle, we’re right there, sometimes teaching with one hand while holding a little one in the other so mum can keep moving. We’ve set the space up to be comfortable and flexible, because breaks are expected and perfection is completely off the table.

It’s about rebuilding strength, confidence and community at your own pace, whether your baby is cheering you on or sleeping through it all. Comparison is cancelled. Every mum and every baby is doing their own thing and that’s exactly how it should be. You grew a human. That counts as strength training.

The studio has such a joyful, uplifting aesthetic. What inspired the all-pink design?

Pink Pilates is unapologetically pink because wellness doesn’t have to be beige. I wanted people to walk in and instantly feel lighter, like they’ve entered a space that’s fun, safe, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Pink here means warmth, softness, confidence, and joy, not stereotypes.

Why was Royal Wharf the right home for Pink Pilates?

Royal Wharf is vibrant, growing, and full of people who value wellbeing and community. It felt like a place where Pink Pilates could genuinely belong, not just as a studio, but as part of everyday life here.

There’s a real neighbourhood feel Royal Wharf, people say hello, look out for each other, and are proud of where they live. It’s welcoming, diverse, and loudly supportive. It’s energetic without being overwhelming. That sense of connection made it the perfect home for us.
