Art in the Docks | What a load of rubbish!
‘What a load of Rubbish’….it’s a term often we hear in arts and cultural venues. Sometimes it’s hard to disagree with the sentiment, at other times it reminds us of just how differently we see things. We don’t always agree with someone else’s idea of ‘good’, and they probably don’t agree with ours.
But this exhibition really will be a load of rubbish. The majority of the artworks are made from the unloved things we see discarded all around us. It will allow us to see things in a different light.
Whilst the exhibition centres on thought provoking creativity, the wider theme is sustainability. If we stick to the most basic of definitions, this is how today’s generation gets what it wants and needs from the world without diminishing what is handed on to the next. How well do we do that?
Come and see the exhibition, meet the artists, and join in with our programme of supporting events and activities throughout the summer.
As part of What a Load of Rubbish local artists are leading a series of workshops:
- Heads of the River (Sat 8 July)
- The Rubbish Queen (Sat 15 July)
- Love your Shoes, Love your Planet (Sun 20 Aug)
- How not to be a Fashion Victim (Sat 26 Aug)
- Yesterday’s News or Today’s Fashion? (Sat 2 Sept)
Commissioned by the Royal Docks Team, At the Docks’ Summer Commissions are 11 projects by creative organisations, local artists and young people, that respond to the theme of sustainability.
