The Rubbish Queen and the Royal Docks Garden Party
On 9th August 1588, just a few miles downriver from the Art in the Docks space on the bank of the R Thames, Queen Elizabeth 1st gave a rousing speech to her troops as they prepared to protect Britain’s coastline. It was at a defining moment in British history and the speech she delivered has become synonymous with the line “I know that I have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king”.
The fact that it happened so close to where we are in the Royal Docks is yet another reason to reflect upon the wonderfully rich heritage of this area.
Come and join artists Colin Gold and Robert O’Dea to celebrate HM Queen Elizabeth 1st by taking part in a collaborative process of making a full-length royal portrait from recycled materials.
Bring your imagination, and you own picnic and take part in the Royal (Docks) Garden party, a truly regal affair on our outside terrace (weather permitting)
The event will be hosted by Art in the Docks, a 5 minute walk from Gallions Reach DLR station. There is no parking available on site.
