Motunrayo Akinola's 'WHITE GARMS'

Montunrayo Akinola has a multidisciplinary practice which is predominantly guided by thoughts of his dual nationality upbringing. Born in London, raised in Lagos and then back to London since his late primary school years, he questions ideas of culture and home and how they appear to exist in a state of constant slippage, seemingly relying on the recognition of others to be validated.

In thinking through this, Akinola uses imagery and objects of the everyday which he feels are charged by a collective understanding or memories of use; slightly altering or combining them with other such objects, aiming to trigger a sense of nostalgia and ritual.
