Millenium Mills: Feeding Edwardian London

Millenium Mills: Feeding Edwardian London

We have built a large-scale, visceral and engaging digital gallery experience that will show visitors to the Royal Docks how this site was connected in a network of globalization and colonialism that provided the growing supply of wheat flour to feed the people living in Greater London during the first decades of the twentieth century.

Our project is about building a "Museum Without Walls" a model where audiences can jump back in time using virtual reality technologies to visualise historical connections and processes that remain relevant even today.

The project is delivered in VR and is composed of a multi-user 5 room digital gallery experience and a 360 VR “Magic Lantern Show”.

The experience has been developed and produced by Royal College of Art Lecturer Dr Atif Ghani with funding from the Arts Council and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada with partnerships with University of Saskatchewan, Canadian History Museum, Western Development Museum, Heritage 5G.
