Living Streams Connect at The Good Hotel

Living Streams Connect is a live music performance inspired by water streams, human connection, well-being and environmental justice, bringing together talented migrants with award-winning musicians.

Led by composer Isa Suarez on keyboards and voice, the project features the Living Streams Ensemble: Arowah on bass and voice, Beibei Wang on percussion, Mercedes Maresca on flute, and Rihab Azar on oud.

This concert follows on from our premiere performance during Refugee Week at Handel Hendrix House, and other performances at St John’s Waterloo and Peckham Rye Park, as well as a series of music workshops with migrants, refugees and the ensemble.

Drawing on recordings of waterways, the project turns the sounds and musicality of water into live music composed both by Suarez and collaboratively during co-creation sessions with the ensemble and migrants. Blending ambient, electronic, experimental and world-music traditions, it explores our relationship with rivers as sources of life and connection, while reflecting on migration and the natural world.

The evening will feature The Living Streams Ensemble performing alongside talented migrant participants opening with participants and the ensemble together, and moving into a section performed by the ensemble.

Supported using public funding by Arts Council England, delivered in partnership with Shelter rom he Storm, Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers, Handel Hendrix House, InspiralLondon, St John’s Waterloo and Good Hotel, and supported by London Museum Docklands, Hear Me Out, Certain Blacks, Counterpoints Arts and the Royal Docks Team.
