February Royal Docks History Club Meeting

Join the Royal Docks History club to discover the life and work of Edward Fennessy, radar pioneer whose work in overseeing the development and installation of radar systems before and during the second world war played a crucial role in the Battle of Britain. Fennessy came from an Irish family who had settled in Andrew Street, Silvertown, and grew up in East Ham. A relatively unknown Newham WWII hero we can't wait to hear more about.

As we prepare to celebrate the Anniversary of the London Games in Newham in 2012, looking back at the Heritage of sports venues and events in Newham and Royal Docks, and coinciding with this month's Winter Games which have us all dreaming of sliding in the snow...we will talk about the History and People's Memories of the "Beckton Alps"; Do you remember when it was possible to go skiing on our doorsteps? And if you are new to the area, perhaps you would like to hear more about that time when Beckton had Skiing Slopes facilities!

And of course an excellent menu for those who stay for food after the talks!
