EFG London Jazz Festival Summer Stage
This summer, the EFG London Jazz Festival expands its horizons with the first-ever outdoor event in its history, bringing fresh sounds, new discoveries, entertaining participatory events, and a creative use of the landscape in London’s Royal Docks.
This one-day event is free to the public and to people of all ages. It is a delightful taster of the festival with eclectic sounds, family-friendly activities and workshops.
Closing the day-long celebrations are The Turbans, binding together music from ‘manywhere’ to ignite audiences with the bacchanalian spirit of the Eastern Mediterranean to get crowds moving.
Kefaya – winners of the Best Newcomer Songlines Music Award bring a fresh, vibrant take on Afghan folk music filtered through spiritual jazz, dub, Indian classical music and electronica. Joining them will be MOBO-nominated saxophonist Camilla George.
Plus electronic and live music from Cykada comprising members of Maisha and Ezra Collective, plus exuberant performance group Kinetika Bloco mixing influences from the Caribbean, Brazil, West and Southern Africa, New Orleans jazz, funk and hip hop to East London.
Vocal collective Urban Flames showcase young, rising talent straight from the development programmes at Urban Development; a Serious partner based in East London that supports the emerging artists of underground music in the UK. The voices within this large ensemble are far scoping; from gospel to soul, RnB to hip hop and more, with an inspiring catalogue of original material.
Hosted by Fusion, mixed by Rita Ray – it’s a nonstop party with drinks from the team behind the bars at Wilderness and mouth-watering tastes from a selection of international food trucks.
