Caritas Anchor House Christmas Concert

Help the homeless, hear local talent, and enjoy a talk by Jeremy Paxman at this Christmas concert at Caritas Anchor House. They say:

A musical start to the season! Join us for a night of festivities, and support people experiencing homelessness.

Christmas Concert at St Margaret and All Saints Church (79 Barking Road) from 6.30pm, followed by a reception right next door at Caritas Anchor House at 81 Barking Road, London E16 4HB from 7.45pm.

Entertainment will include performances from St Antony's R C Primary School , Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir, and One Hope, and speakers include Jeremy Paxman and a resident who will share their story.

This Christmas season we want to celebrate one year on from the opening of our Hub for people sleeping rough. Launched in December 2018 as part of the governments new Rough Sleeping Strategy, the Hub has made a real difference to the lives of many people who had been living on the streets.

The London Borough of Newham, where Caritas Anchor House is based, had the highest levels of homelessness in the UK last year with statistics showing a staggering one in twenty-four people experiencing homelessness. With our track record of bringing about genuine and lasting change to people’s lives, this is something we hope to change.

"I had nowhere to go. I ended up sleeping rough and often stayed in the Stratford Centre – where lots of homeless people stay – to keep as warm as dry as I could through the night." - Ahmad

Since its launch, the hub has housed 52 rough sleepers, 89% of whom have significant support needs in addition to homelessness. It has been a welcome addition to our core service which provides longer-term accommodation to over 200 homeless people each year, as well as support to improve health and well being, access to educational and employment opportunities, and support to secure and sustain independent living.

So join us for a joyous night of musical festivities from local talents to celebrate our progress in the fight to end homelessness, and help to make a difference to the lives of many more people who need our help.
