Docks Open Art Commissions: Bioluminescent Garden
A glowing garden has taken root at the Royal Docks, by local artist Hannah Whittaker.
Each flower in this installation was handmade by local participants who chose archival images and colour palettes to decorate their customised petals. Together, these flowers carry the stories of the Docks, past and present, into a new, collective artwork.
Historic textures, waterways, and images of the Docks illuminate the blooms, giving the installation a sense of memory and change.
Bioluminescent Garden celebrates transformation: of materials into artworks and of the Docks themselves as they continue to evolve into a place of creativity and connection. Using projection mapping, each handmade flower is illuminated with glowing patterns created from archival and contemporary imagery of the Royal Docks - textures, maps, and footage that reflect the area's past and present. The result is a vibrant, living artwork that evolves with every contribution.
Bioluminescent Garden is part of Royal Albert Wharf Creative Open Day.
Bioluminescent Garden is a Docks Open Art Commission curated by Hive Curates.
