Artist Talk: Larry Achiampong in conversation with Priyesh Mistry

We are delighted to invite artist Larry Achiampong for a conversation with curator Priyesh Mistry. Hosted by Good Hotel, where Achiampong's pan-African flag, What I Hear I Keep (2020), is situated, speakers will discuss Achiampong's work and the history of the Royal Docks.

The discussion and Q&A will take place from 6:30-7:30pm. A paid bar is available in the hotel.

Larry Achiampong’s solo and collaborative projects employ imagery, aural and visual archives, live performance and sound to explore ideas surrounding class, cross-cultural and post-digital identity.  His work examines his communal and personal heritage – in particular, the intersection between pop culture and the postcolonial position, seeking to reveal the entrenched socio-political contradictions in contemporary society. He has two works on The Line, What I Hear I Keep and Sanko-time (2020), an audio commission reflecting on colonialism in the historical context of the River Thames.

Priyesh Mistry is Associate Curator of Modern & Contemporary Projects at the National Gallery, London where he works towards an ambitious programme to integrate contemporary art within the context of the museum and its historic collections. Recent projects include Ali Cherri: If you prick us, do we not bleed?, Dance to the Music of Our Time: A Live Exhibition with Hetain Patel, Florence Peake, Zadie Xa and Benito Mayor Vallejo, Rosalind Nashashibi: An Overflow of Passion and Sentiment and upcoming projects with Nalini Malani and Céline Condorelli. Previously, he was Assistant Curator, International Art at Tate Modern where he specialised on art from South Asia.

Facilities throughout the hotel are wheelchair accessible. Please contact francesca@the-line.org prior to the event if you have any accessibility requirements. Photography and video recording will take place at this event. If you do not consent to being in photos or videos, please talk to a member of The Line team at the event.
