Compressor House Warming: Arrivals + Departures

Arrivals + Departures is an artwork that explores birth, death and the journey in between.

The installation, by YARA + DAVINA, takes the form of two large, interactive dot-flip display boards. The boards, like the ones seen at train stations, invite you to submit the names of people who have arrived and departed, to acknowledge, celebrate and commemorate them. Names may range from the personal to the political, from unsung heroes to national treasures.

After touring the world for five years, Arrivals + Departures is finding its permanent home in the newly opened Compressor House. During the final week of the RDO festival, YARA + DAVINA will be hosting welcome events and inviting local artist takeovers to mark the journey of the boards so far, and their resonance to the stories of migration, [de]colonisation and transformation that are so pertinent to Compressor House and the Royal Docks.

Arrivals & Departures has been supported by Without Walls. Commissioned by Artsadmin, Norfolk & Norwich Festival, Freedom Festival Arts Trust. Funded by Arts Council England and the Create to Connect>Create To Impact, Creative Europe Programme.
