Thames Barrier Park set to welcome a brand-new café

Thames Barrier Park, the Royal Docks’ largest and much-loved green space, can boast of a summer of success.

Hot on the heels of receiving its sixth consecutive Green Flag Award and playing host to a bumper season of spectacular arts and cultural events, we are delighted to announce that plans are in place to bring the park’s much anticipated café back to life.

Following essential capital works, the premises have undergone a complete renovation, offering stunning facilities throughout including a fully equipped kitchen complete with pizza oven, new internal and external lighting and decking with additional seating and planting. All facilities are fully accessible and include a changing area for babies and young children.

The Royal Docks Team is currently inviting Expressions of Interest from established businesses to take on the management and running of the café for a 6.5-year term. We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced operator who can maximise the potential of the new building. We are particularly interested in hearing from businesses that can demonstrate a commitment to working in partnership with local stakeholders to create a flourishing community hub, hosting and offering events for local people.

Thames Barrier Park is one of the area’s most-prized community assets. It is a unique urban nature sanctuary, a vital green space and host to year-round cultural commissions and community events celebrating the area’s creativity, heritage and commitment to sustainability. This is a remarkable opportunity for the right operator to build a thriving business at the heart of the Royal Docks.

Our ambition is for the café to reopen by Spring 2024.

The closing date for Expressions of Interest is Friday 27th October 2023.
