Skills for a Sustainable Future: July at the Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability
This July, the Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability (RDCS) is buzzing with opportunities to connect, grow and lead. With a packed calendar of free events, the focus is on how skills from emotional wellbeing to green careers can shape a stronger, more inclusive future for East London.
Highlights include the Green Jobs & Skills Fair on 9 July, where residents can connect with employers and training providers to explore future-facing career paths in the green economy. Whether you're just starting out or looking to pivot into sustainable industries, this event is your gateway to real opportunities.
Emotional wellbeing is also in focus. Mile Rainbow CIC returns with its Emotional Vaccine workshops (Friday 4th July & Thursday 10th July), blending Eastern and Western techniques to build resilience before crisis strikes. Led by Hong Zhou (MBBS, MSc, MPH, MHFA), these innovative NHS-funded sessions offer practical tools for better mental health.
Businesses and charities can engage with the Grow London Local Coffee Morning on 4 July and the Charity Sofa x Avocado Foundation session on 10 July, both designed to help founders build strategic partnerships and access tailored support.
Every Tuesday from 11:30am–1:30pm, RDCS also hosts Make, Mend and Sew: a welcoming drop-in where residents can learn basic sewing skills, upcycle old garments, or bring clothes in for repair. These community sessions help reduce textile waste while teaching useful, lifelong skills.
Looking ahead, the August Takeover will open up RDCS spaces to local groups, creatives and changemakers to deliver their own workshops and ideas for free, supporting a summer of community-led programming in the Royal Docks.
