On your marks! Starting gun fired on London’s first residential rooftop running track

In a first for London, Mount Anvil and joint venture partner Excel have launched an athletics track on the roof of Eden House, at Queens Cross in Royal Victoria Dock. At 50 metres above the ground, with panoramic views towards the Olympic Park, Canary Wharf, and the City skyline, the track and outdoor gym offer residents the chance to stay fit while enjoying the spectacular surroundings.

The track was officially opened by Olympic, World, and Commonwealth champion Christine Ohuruogu MBE, alongside James Asser, MP for West Ham and Beckton.

Speaking at the launch, Christine Ohuruogu MBE, said:

“It is such a great pleasure to launch a new running facility in Newham. Supporting the local community and providing access to facilities for people of all abilities is something that is hugely important to me. Young people want opportunities and London’s first residential rooftop running track gives residents here the chance to train, be active and maintain a healthy lifestyle.”

The rooftop track is part of Eden House, which also features London’s first purpose-built Peloton-powered cycling studio within a residential development and a swimming pool. These facilities are part of Mount Anvil’s commitment to providing high-quality, tenure-blind housing. Full access to the amenities will be available to all residents by January 2025.

Queens Cross, being developed in partnership with Excel and housing association One Housing, is set to deliver 854 new homes by 2027, ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments. Of these, 262 will be affordable. The development is designed with fitness and wellbeing at its core, offering 5,000 sqm of biodiverse landscaped gardens, a yoga studio, treatment rooms, a luxurious sauna, flexible workspaces, and a 24-hour concierge service. In addition to the running track, there will be a swimming pool and Peloton studio.
