Chinese Fortune – Oral History Heritage Project

Join the Newham Chinese Association (NCA) for the launch of their Oral History Heritage Project - Chinese Fortune. You can hear from a range of community members from the local area alongside speeches from the Chair of the NCA, Mr Yin Kwong Yau and Joanna McAleer, National Heritage Lottery Funding Officer.

Oral history is first-hand evidence of the past. Oral histories can be shared as a resource in their own right, or as part of the way we explain a museum collection, historic building, community or place. At the NCA Launch party you can expect to see the following:

  • Recruitment of Volunteers from Community and Universities/ Info stall
  • Training of Volunteers – 07/02/20, 10am - 3pm
  • Recruitment of Elders for Oral history recording/ Info stall
  • Audio podcast of Oral History recording - ECH, Judith/ James King
  • Screening of Video clips of 2 interviews made by LU students & Sharing of Experience
  • Karaoke/ Performances by NCA members/ friends/ students
  • Questions and Answer Session / Acknowledgement/ Closing Speeches
  • Chinese New Year Celebration / Chinese Calligraphy Workshop/ Stall - volunteers
