Economic development

We’re working to grow a diverse, competitive, and fair economy — and rebuilding and strengthening the Royal Docks’ reputation as an international centre for innovation, enterprise, and trade. We’re supporting local businesses, nurturing our cultural and creative industries, and empowering and training local people to be ready for the thousands of highly-skilled jobs that will be created in the Royal Docks. So bring your economic development experience to the Royal Docks and help us shape a more prosperous and fairer future.

  • The opportunity

Bring your economic development experience to the Royal Docks and help us shape a more prosperous future. You’ll take the lead on projects to boost the Royal Docks economy, fostering a balanced business ecosystem that delivers on our development objectives. This will include ensuring that projects and initiatives sit seamlessly within the overarching economy strategy for the whole borough, as well as shaping programmes for employment and skills, business support, and inward investment. You will also identify and develop clusters, and support capital projects and workspace development. Achieving your goals means working directly with the London Borough of Newham and closely with the GLA, local employers, and other programme delivery partners.

    The person

This high-profile role would suit an economic development specialist with expertise spanning employment and skills, business support, and area-based regeneration. With experience of delivering a significant strategy or programme, you will have led project development and management, worked closely with the community, consultant teams, and a wide range of partners as well as had budget oversight responsibilities. This should include hands-on involvement in the delivery of sustainable and affordable workspace. With an excellent understanding of the interrelationship between London boroughs and the GLA, you’ll be used to senior-level engagement and highly collaborative working practices. Well-developed IT skills are essential and you will, of course, be an exceptional communicator.
